Mailbox Keys
Anyone whom has ever lost their mailbox keys knows what a hassle it can be and that it may take sometime for a replacement key. Mean while your bills, documents requiring immediate attention or even a paycheck is waiting inside that box. Often the post office will not be helpful in assisting you with a replacement key and some of these boxes can only be open with a master key after you have provided documentation to ensure that you are the lawful owner of that box. This is often irritating for companies whom issue employees the keys to obtain their mail.
Normally one will attempt to obtain a replacement key from their mail delivery service whom just may have duplicate keys for your particular box. Other’s if living in apartments or condos can check with management for additional keys but than one questions how safe your mail is, if others can actually access your mailbox. Management is required to exchange locks when new tenants move in, to prevent the prior tenant from access to your mail. For single family dwellings or businesses that have this added secure protection of locked boxes, the lock or the mailbox can be changed. It really depends on the type of mailbox you have and whom is considered the owner if the box. However, these usually are the more difficult ways to obtain a replacement key.
It is recommended that you call your locksmith and make arrangements for the drilling of the box, replacement of the lock and the issuance of a new key. There will be a fee for this service, but there maybe no other alternative to gain access to your locked box. If you were able to obtain a duplicate key from the mail carrier or management, a locksmith will be able to cut a new key from the many key templates they carry at a nominal cost. Many locksmiths have suitable locks or even mailboxes on inventory and can have a replacement completed in a very short period of time. Obtaining new mailbox keys is not a big deal when you know that this is just one of the many services provided by locksmiths.
